Painted Tin Cans For Wall Decor

Today I'm going to share with you a little something I came up with to add a little touch to my wall above the T.V. It wasn't easy to decide what to put above the T.V. simply because you don't want it to distract from the T.V. while watching it, but yet at the same time I didn't want a plain white wall. Of course I would rather have a painted wall but since we are renting you just have to make the best out of what you have. That's where decorations are important.
I had seen where people were putting glass bottles on the wall with a piece of wood. I thought it was so cute but since I had put some glass bottles on my fireplace that kind of scratched that idea. When I first was coming up with a plan to decorate my living room I wanted to stick painted cans with flowers in them on my in tables but it just didn't look right, so I gave up on that idea. Then it hit me to put the painted cans on a block of wood above the T.V. It looked perfect! Not too much decoration, but just the right touch. Plus it was super easy which is always an added bonus.
So let's get started on how to add a simple touch to your walls that looks great but yet don't cost much. Sorry for the lack of step~by~step pictures but as I had said before I hadn't planned on having a blog so I didn't take step~by~step photos. But if you have any questions feel free to ask.
First I saved 3 cans from some vegetables. I cleaned them out. Once they were dry I painted them with the paint I had bought from Lowes. I just bought the samples and I have had plenty to use for my decorations in my living room and it only cost me $9.00. I actually painted them with primer first then put a coat of paint on them. I had planned on painting the tin can until the white didn't show but I liked how the white looked so I left it.
I had bought some wood that was already cut, I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. I painted it and let it dry. I think I put on 2 layers of paint. Once it was dry I drilled a hole where I wanted the cans to hang. I then drilled a hole in the can. I put a screw through the wood and into the can and tightened it with a nut. As you can see in the picture the screw is a little big but I don't care. As you get to know me I'm not a perfectionist in the craft area. It was going to be covered with flowers and as far as I know nobody is rating my decorations. I'm the one who has to look at it daily and it don't bother me esp. since you can't see it hanging there. I then added some flowers and hung them on my wall! Also I drilled the hole after I had painted it and as you can see it scratched the paint, so if you try this I would drill the hole before painting it.

I added some flowers for a nice touch and a little flower decoration to the tin can for some finishing touches!
Simple, cheap, easy and looks good (well at least I think so)! My kind of decorations! So what do you think was it the right touch above the T.V.? There really is so much you can do with a painted can with flowers in it. In my opinion it's a great decoration for any part of your house. Oh please excuse the Superbowl game, my husband is a Baltimore Raven fan and when he has nothing to watch he watches the Superbowl and the playoffs, and turns the T.V. directly towards his 'chair'. I'm lucky I was able to get a picture in. If you have a husband I'm sure you know what I mean.
Now that I have finished blogging about this part of my wall here's the finished product of one of my walls in my living room! On one side of the fireplace I have family pictures and on the other side are my tin cans with flowers in them. Then of course there is my fireplace. O.K. so I need to take a photography class. I know I don't take the best pictures but I hope it's good enough for you to get the 'picture'. Can't wait to share the rest of my living room with you!
