Welcome to Successful Secrets! On here I will share my SECRET'S to being a Mother, Wife and more. I will share what works for me and the successes and fails that come along with it. I like to keep things real, because let's face it, we are not perfect people and it's refreshing to know that there are people out there that you can relate to. I enjoy crafting, baking, the great outdoors, and life itself. I am a devoted Christian, Mother of 3, and Wife. There is nothing more rewarding than spending each day with the Lord and with my family.
So let me tell you more about myself so you can get to know me a little better. I have had my ups and downs in life and by no means am I perfect (which I am sure many of you can relate to). I have had struggles and because of those struggles I am who I am today. I am proud of the lows in my life (because I overcame them) and the highs in my life (because it was something I had to fight for). I am here because I want to be able to relate to people who have walked in my shoes or are currently struggling and may find my blog encouraging.
Now let me take you down my path and the obstacles that tried to stand in the way of my successes.
THE ODDS THAT WERE STACKED AGAINST ME:
1. I come from a divorced family
2. I got pregnant at 15 and had my first child at 16
3. I was a single teenage parent
4. I am a high school dropout
5. I was unwed when I had my second child at the age of 24 (but we eventually got married and have now been married for 13 years and counting)!
6. I am Native American
7. Alcoholism runs in my father's side of the family
8. I have Epilepsy
I am sure I can find some more things to go on about but those were some of the obstacles I had to overcome if I wanted my children to have a better life than myself. Let me tell you, things have not always been easy but with the good Lord by my side, I have managed to beat the odds that were stacked against me. I still have daily struggles like anyone else, but I have definitely achieved many goals in my life, some I am still reaching for and I hope to share with you some of my Successful Secrets that have helped me along the way!
Now on to more positive things in my life. As I stated I am a wife and not just any wife but a Pastor's wife. This is something fairly new to me (3 years) and let me say that has got to be one of the hardest jobs I have ever done. I'm sure somewhere in a blog post you will get the opportunity to hear all about it but let's just say never would I have envisioned myself as a Pastor's wife but I try to embrace it and do my best. With my husband's support (you can read a little about him here)I think I am doing pretty awesome for being blindsided.
I have 3 wonderful children (whom you can read more about here). They are my motivation to be the best mother and person I can be. I have never been a perfect mother nor will I ever be, but those 3 light up my life and I would do anything for them (as I am sure you would do the same for your children as well). Those 3 drive me crazy at times but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Last but not least my career choice! I finally found my calling in life and since many of my family members (as well as my fellow Indigenous brothers and sisters) have fallen victim to addiction, I decided that I wanted to help reservations build programs that help those with addictions. Despite me dropping out of high school, in December of 2016 I graduated with a BS in Psychology with a specialization in Addictions and Recovery and a minor in Christian Counseling. Unfortunately being a licensed counselor limited what I could do and I have now enrolled in college to get my MS in Healthcare Administration with a specialization in Public Administration. This will allow me to create addiction and recovery programs that I hope to implement on reservations throughout the country. I am very passionate about helping those who struggle with addictions and I hope to impact not just the lives of other Native Americans but reservations as well. I want my people to succeed and it begins with compassion and hope and I have that to offer to them.
Thanks for stopping by and hopefully you can find one thing (or more), that you enjoy or can relate to, but I can tell you my life is never boring so it's possible you might find one thing (or more) that may grab your attention!
